Going into its 25th campaign in 2018, this extremely popular lottery is unique!
The lottery generates funds that the Society uses for grants to many Irish Cultural organizations. These grants make a very positive and meaningful contribution to the promotion of our Irish culture in its many forms in our community. To date, over one million dollars has been granted.
A ticket costs $100 and allows one to participate in 26 bi-weekly draws throughout the year. The total prize package for the year is $50,000 and is made up of trips to Ireland, Florida and Las Vegas as well as 22 prizes of either $2,500, $1,500 or $1,000. The final Grand Prize is for a car or cash equivalent. What makes this lottery unique is that, if you win a prize, your ticket goes back in for all future draws. Indeed in 2017, we had one individual win twice! Karen and Sean Murphy of Kemptville Travel generously donate the Trip for Two to Ireland each year.
All draws take place live every two weeks on the Hugo Straney Show on CHIN Radio, 1540AM, Sundays at 10AM to 11AM.
Co-Chairs of the lottery, Michael P. Hurley and Kevin Kelly pull it all together each year, with the support of enthusiastic volunteer ticket sellers. The benefiting organizations are pleased with the financial support that allows them to thrive in our community.
Attached is a photo of our 2017 Grand Prize winner, Ian McAnoy. Ian, who came from Dublin in the Sixties, is a staunch supporter of the lottery and opted for the $14,000 prize money.
