The Isle of Arran’s first distillery is open all year round for guided tours and whisky tasting, with a variety of whiskies on sale in the gift shop.
Picturesque Lochranza, at the north of the Isle of Arran, has been the location of the island’s first legal distillery for over 150 years. Until the 19th century, Arran was renowned for its Malt Whisky, often made illicitly, and known locally as “Arran Water”.
The state of the art visitor centre, opened in 1997 by HM the Queen, has guided tours, a shop and an-all day restaurant offering an interesting and appetising menu based on the best of local produce available. There is also a newly opened downstairs Coffee Bar which provides snacks and sandwiches to take away, as well as a selection of hot and cold drinks. A visit here at any time is certainly worthwhile.
Enjoy an interesting and informative visit to the distillery, where you can see production of the Arran Malt. You’ll learn about whisky making from professionally trained guides and experience a little bit of history in the making.
For those who wish to sample a little more of what the Arran Malt has to offer, then our Tutored Tastings are for you: sample four different expressions from a full range of our available whiskies, tutored by one of our expert guides. Many of the whiskies you taste will also be available for purchase in our beautifully refurbished gift shop.
Both our Distillery Tours and Tutored Tastings last an hour. Distillery Tours run every hour on the hour from 10am until 4pm at a cost of only £10 for an adult. Tutored Tastings run three times a day at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm, costing £15 per person and restricted to those aged over 18 years old. Combined tickets for the Distillery Tour and Tutored Tasting are also available.
