Training for success with Ash Dykes

Welsh adventurer Ash Dykes is the first person in the world to walk the length of the Yangtze river in China. He trains for all his expeditions in Wales. Learn about his favourite locations and how he prepares for those epic adventures.

Adventurer Ash Dykes on preparing for his biggest adventure to date – walking the length of the Yangtze River in China.

I’ve walked the length of Wales in winter. I’ve cycled the length of Wales. It’s where I put all the physical prep in.

This is my training ground, surrounded by beauty is always a good place to do it.

I prepared for my most ambitious expedition to date – walking the entire length of the Yangtze River in China – here in Wales.

I rely on the preparation I do in Wales for success on the expeditions abroad. Although I push myself, it is the perfect place to switch off. And you know, you’ve got to remember to enjoy it!

I’ve brought so many friends from all over the world here, and they’ve always been shocked with just how much Wales has to offer.

You’ve got Snowdon here, which is globally known. We’ve got beaches, we’ve got mountains, disused quarries.

I rely on the preparation I do here in Wales to succeed on the expedition abroad.

I always carry Wales very close to my heart. It is just pure epic.
